Annette Johnson - Executive Director
Ms. Annette Johnson is the Executive Director of the University of Alaska Center for Economic Development,
a position she has held since 1993. Through her office she provides technical assistance to community-based
organizations engaged in economic development activities throughout Alaska. Assistance efforts include
strategic planning, feasibility studies, business planning and non-profit corporation business counseling.
A native of Oregon, prior to coming to Alaska Ms. Johnson served as the Director of the Rural Oregon Diversification
Program at Eastern Oregon University. She provided technical assistance to community-based organizations and
rural manufacturers.
Ms. Johnson is the current President of the National Association of Management and Technical Assistance Centers.
She also serves on the Economic Development Team of the National Advisory Committee for the Catholic Campaign
for Human Development, and has served on numerous economic development task forces and committees in both
Alaska and Oregon.
Ms. Johnson holds an MBA degree from the University of Portland. She has completed the American Economic Development
Council’s Economic Development Institute three-year certificate program through the University of Oklahoma, as
well as National Leadership Training through the Pacific Institute of Community Organizing in Oakland, California.
