Past Projects of the CED
The University of Alaska Center for Economic Development was established in 1992 to provide technical assistance
to community-based organizations, non-profit corporations, local governments, and tribal and village
councils in their efforts to implement community and economic development strategies. The
University of Alaska Anchorage and the U. S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration
provide joint funding for the Center.
Projects over the past several years have included:
- Porphyra Seaweed Market Feasibility Study for the Sitka Tribe of Alaska.
- Cash Flow and Financial Analysis for the Egegik Tribal Council public dock.
- Restoration Feasibility Study and Analysis of Uses for Old St. Joseph’s Church for the City of Nome.
- Business Plan for new tannery building and equipment for the Shishmaref Traditional Industries fur tannery.
- Commercial Real Estate Analysis for Tok.
- Start-up assistance and strategic planning for Mary Magdalene Home Alaska in Anchorage.
- Start-up assistance and strategic planning for the Kodiak Island Arts and Crafts Cooperative.
- Cash Flow and Financial Analysis for the Chalkyitsik Native Corporation multi-purpose building.
- Regional Vocational School feasibility study for the Economic Development Administration.
- Feasibility Study for Regional Training and Conference Center in the Village St. Mary’s.
- Analysis of old bone and ivory supply and strategies for inventory control for the villages of Savoonga, Gambell and Shishmaref.
- Restoration Feasibility Study and Analysis of Uses for Old for the old Brevig Mission Church and Orphanage.
