Registration Guidelines for MBA Courses
The MBA program at the University of Alaska
Anchorage is nationally accredited by the
Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of
Business (AACSB International), and is
administered in compliance with national
accreditation guidelines. As a consequence,
admission to the program and to all
600-level business administration (BA),
accounting (ACCT), and computer
information/office systems (CIS) courses is
restricted. However, the overall policy
behind these restrictions is quite liberal,
and in general you do not have to be fully
admitted to the MBA program to start taking
courses. The course registration policies
are outlined below.
|
1) To register
for any MBA courses, as a
minimum you must have graduate
standing. You have graduate
standing if one or more of the
following are true:
a) You have filed an official application for admission form,
but have not yet been admitted to the UAA
MBA
program, and are registering within the
limits described
under (2) below;
b) You have been admitted to, or have applied for
admission to some other graduate program at
UAA,
UAF, UAS;
c) You are an admitted graduate student at some other
regionally accredited university or college
(or its
international equivalent), and you wish to
take one or
more courses at UAA to be transferred to
your degree
program, and you have obtained written
authorization
from the UAA MBA program chair.
2) If you have applied for
admission to the MBA, but are
not yet
fully admitted, you may:
a) Enroll in any amount of foundation work. Note: You
should have your specific foundation
course
requirements evaluated by the MBA
program chair
before registering so that you do not
take unnecessary
courses.
b) In addition to foundation courses, take up to 9 credits
of graduate work beyond the
foundation
to be applied to the 36 credits of
MBA
core/electives/project required of
all MBAs. However,
because of accreditation standards,
until you are fully
admitted you may not exceed this
9-credit limit without
written permission of the MBA program
chair. Violation
of this rule may result in the excess
credits not being
applied to the 36-credit requirement.
3) You must meet any specific
course prerequisite
requirements, or have the course
instructor’s permission (or
alternatively in some cases, the
MBA program chair’s permission)
to enroll.
4) Students who are not yet
fully admitted to the MBA
program or meet the graduate
standing criteria above must get
permission of the MBA program
chair to register for graduate
level MBA courses. An emailed
request is suggested.
5) Students must comply with all
other UAA registration
deadlines, rules and procedures
as written in the current UAA
course schedule and the UAA
Catalog. |
