Degrees:

     Ph.D. - Economics, Washington State University, 1976
     B.S. - Economics, Idaho State University, 1967
    

Previous Experience:
Dr. Hill joined the UAA faculty in 1975. He has also taught at Western Washington University in Bellingham and in 1983 was a visiting professor at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand.

Areas of Expertise:
Dr. Hill specializes in Alaskan policy issues, including industry organization, deregulation, the impact of amateur sports events on economies and resource allocation, as well as fishery economics, forensic economics, public finance and monetary economics.

University, Professional, Public Service:
Dr. Hill has served UAA as Chair of the Admissions and Standards Committee, as Finance Chair and member of the Board of Directors for the Tanaina Child Development Center and on the Student Showcase Committee. He is a faculty advisor for the UAA Economics Club and Omicron Delta Epsilon, an international economics honor society. Outside of the university, Dr. Hill has reviewed and edited textbooks on economics, helped produce a documentary entitled "Privatize Anchorage Telephone Utility?" for KAKM-TV, and two half-hour shows on the pros and cons of business subsidies for KIMO-TV. For years he has helped with the planning, organization and execution of the annual Alaska Heart Run for the American Heart Association as an AHR committee member. Dr. Hill is also a lifetime member of the Nordic Skiing Association and he continues to serve that organization as an economic advisor. A past member of the United States Skiing Association, he served ten years as the race director of the Tour of Anchorage, part of the American Ski Marathon Series, the premier national marathon ski series in the United States. Dr. Hill has also been an economic advisor and researcher for the Alaska Amateur Sports Authority and he was an advisor for the Anchorage Organizing Committee during the city's campaign to host the 1994 Olympics.


Professional Affiliations:
Dr. Hill is a member of the National Tax Association, the American Economic Association, the Western Economic Association, the American Fisheries Society (Economics Section), and the Western Regional Science Association.

Scholarship/Creative Activity:
Dr. Hill has written or co-written numerous articles, reports and papers, including "Economic Impacts of the 1996 Great Alaska Shootout," for the Institute of Social and Economic Research and "Economics 101 and an Economic Way of Thinking," published in The American Economist.
