Previous Experience:
Dr. Yen joined the faculty at UAA after six years as a teaching fellow at the University of Houston, where she obtained her masters’ and doctoral degrees. Prior to that she worked for two years in Houston as a systems consultant. Before arriving in the United States, Dr. Yen was an accountant for an international trading company in Taipei, Taiwan.

Areas of Expertise:
Dr. Yen specializes in computer programming, client/server database management systems and accounting information systems.

University, Professional, Public Service:
Dr. Yen currently serves on UAA's Campus Safety Committee and is a past chair of that committee's Grounds and Buildings Work Group. She has also served on the UAA Administrative Committee, the Nominations Committee and as co-chair of the Faculty Affairs Board. Dr. Yen has served the School of Business as database technical supporter for the student information service center, on the Curriculum Review and Improvement, Faculty Standards and Improvements and Departmental Marketing Plan Committees and on the Computer Contractor Searching Committee for the Alaska Business International Center. She is also a past advisor for the student chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP). Dr. Yen is the current director of the professional certification program for the Anchorage Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP), and has chaired international conferences for the Institute of Management Sciences (TIMS) and the International Academy for Information Management (IAIM). She has been a book reviewer for publishing houses and a Chinese instructor for the School of the Alaska Chinese Association.

Professional Affiliations:
Dr. Yen is a member of the Decision Sciences Institute, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Association for Computing Machinery and Beta Gamma Sigma, a national business school honor society.

Scholarship/Creative Activity:
Dr. Yen has published articles in refereed journals, conference proceedings and books including Minimalist Design of Instructional Materials: Diary of a College Student Using SQL. (Human Factors and Information Systems, with Ronald A. Gillemette); Search for Competitive Advantage: Using Prototype for an Electronic Commerce Application Development, (Managing Information Technology and Applications in the World Economy, the proceedings of the 1997 Information Resources Management Association International Conference). She has also presented professional papers at several conferences.

Honors, Awards, Certificates, Licenses:
Dr. Yen is a certified public accountant. She has received three UAA Faculty Development Grants (1990, 1991 and 1996), an Outstanding Intellectual Contributions Award from the College of Business in 1993 and a Clayton Fellowship in Management Information Systems by the University of Houston College of Business Administration for the 1985-1986 academic year. In 1989 she was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, a national honor society for collegiate schools of business, and her Ph.D. dissertation was an Abstract of Interest in 1990.
