Dr. Protasel joined
the UAA faculty in
1989, after four
years at Idaho State
University where he
directed the Master

Program. He has

University in
California, and
Olivet College in
Michigan. Dr.
Protasel has worked
for the Soil
Conservation
Service, U.S.
Department of
Agriculture, and the
Office of Planning
and Evaluation, U.S.
Department of Health
and Human Services.
Dr. Protasel has

President for the
Alaska Chapter of
the American Society
for Public
Administration (ASPA).
He is a member of

Pacific Northwest
Political Science

served as Chair of
the Public

Department and is
the current Chair of
the Department. His

in the Russian Far

Dr. Protasel is

the Chair of the
Department of Public
Administration, and
first Vice President
of the faculty
Senate. Dr. Protasel
served as Chair of
the Department of

Administration from
1991 to 1998. He has

Academic Board
(1993-1996) and
various other UAA
committees, such as
the Faculty Senate
Executive Committee,
the Grants and Leave
Committee, and the
Library Advisory
Committee. Dr.
Protasel is
currently working
with the State of
Alaska Professional
Management Institute
(PMI) to coordinate
the delivery of UA's
Certified Public
Management (CPM)
Program. He has
served as President
of the Alaska

Public

and is a member of
the Alaska Dispute
Settlement
Association (ADSA).
Dr. Protasel serves
on the Mayor’s
Budget Advisory
Committee. He has
served as project
coordinator for the
USAID Institutional
Partnership Project
at the American
Russian Center and
has trained
government managers
in the Sakhalin
Regional
Administration in
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk,
Russia.
