Previous Experience:
Dr. Geistauts joined the UAA faculty in 1974 after four years at the School of Business at Washington State University. From 1981 to 1984 he taught at Alaska Pacific University. Dr. Geistauts is also an active management consultant.

Areas of Expertise:


University, Professional, Public Service:
Dr. Geistauts chairs the University Honors Program Committee, has served on the Graduate Affairs Board and is a past member of the Library Advisory Committee. Dr. Geistauts has also served as Director of the graduate program for the College of Business and Public Policy, chair of the UAA Computer Users Committee, member of the Statewide Computers Users Committee and Director of the Small Business Institute. He helped develop and participated in the training programs for Russian entrepreneurs through UAA's American Russian Center. He has also provided consulting services for businesses and other organizations, including ARCO, the Internal Revenue Service, Access Alaska, Bristol Bay Native Association and various state agencies. He was on the Board of Directors for the Internship Program of Alaska, and has conducted workshops, seminars and lectures for the Alaska Department of Environmental Quality, the South-Central Health Systems Agency, the Anchorage Police Department, the Chamber of Commerce and a variety of other public and professional bodies. Dr. Geistauts was involved in long-range planning with the Cook Inlet Native Association, the Anchorage Arts Council and the Resource Development Council.

Professional Affiliations:
Dr. Geistauts is a member of the Institute for Management Sciences (INFORMS), The World Futures Society, the Society for Business Ethics and Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honor society.

Scholarship/Creative Activity:
Dr. Geistauts is the co-author of the books Alaska’s Future: Commentary on a Delphi Perspective and The Alaska Small Business Guide. He has also written numerous articles and papers on economic development in Alaska, technology strategy, long-range judgmental forecasting, and strategic management in journals such as the Engineering Management Journal and the Journal of Cold Region Engineering. Dr. Geistauts has made a number of paper presentations and his work has been included in proceedings at various conferences, including "Evaluating the Attractiveness of a Technology: A Dual Technology Developer/Technology Buyer Perspective," recently published in the proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Management in Technology (on CD-ROM). Another paper, "Strategic Management of Oil Spills: Some Lessons from the Exxon Valdez Disaster" was included in the proceedings of the UAA/OPEC Conference on Energy Issues for the 1990s and published in a special edition of the OPEC Review in 1992.

Honors, Awards, Certificates, Licenses:
Dr. Geistauts was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honor society, in 1998.
