Previous Experience:
Over 25 years teaching experience in the statewide university system as a full-time teacher, adjunct teacher, and professional technician. Having taught a variety of office and business classes in the Computer Information and Office Systems Department (formerly with the Office Management and Technology Department), this experience has provided Professor Shrader with the skills to assist students with instruction, university life, and student services. Her teaching load is primarily in the areas of managerial presentations, business communications, business English, and end-user applications on personal computers. In addition to structured classes, she has taught all the individualized, open-entry business courses offered in the Office Instructional Center, managed Office Technology Program; co-ordinated Clerical Cluster Program, wrote grants and program review documents. Currently, her teaching activities are focused on the coordination and instruction in both CIOS 380 Managerial Presentations and CIOS 105 Introduction to PC Computers courses. CIOS 380 teaches business students to effectively communicate by writing reports and letters, through professional oral presentations, and with several powerful software presentation packages. She uses a variety of teaching techniques to include computer presentations and demos, multimedia effects, guest lectures, in-class activities and discussions. This class is extremely demanding in scope of content, student contact hours, and evaluation. She believes in an "open-door" policy, so a significant part of her day is spent counseling, instructing, and mentoring students. The second half of Professor Shrader's current teaching load is CIOS 105 Introduction to PC Computers, an overview of computers, designed for small business and personal use. It is an introduction to several popular software applications: MS Word97, MS Excel97, MS PowerPoint97, and MS Access97. With the dramatic changes in technology, she is continually challenged to provide students with the most current information available. In this effort, she must learn new software versions, adopt textbooks to support changing software, develop all new course materials, assignments, and quizzes to support these changes. As of the Fall 2000 semester, CBPP is offering MS Office 2000 and Windows 98 to students.
